Every Tuesday, around 200 stalls run the length of the High Street in Moreton-in-Marsh. It is one of the largest open-air street markets in the Cotswolds, and it has been running since the town was granted its market charter in 1227.

Mae Cottage sits on the High Street itself, so the market opens up a few steps from the front door. Walk out, browse, drop shopping at the cottage, head back for lunch.

How to do market day well

01Arrive before 10am if you want the best of the produce stalls and a quieter walk down the High Street.
02Bring a tote or two. Most stalls do not give bags, and you will leave with more than you planned.
03Cash is still useful at some smaller stalls, though most now accept card.
04Pubs and cafes get busy from 12pm. Book a lunch table the day before, or eat on the move from the hot food stalls.
05Dogs are welcome along the market. Keep them on a short lead through the busier sections.
06If it rains, the market still runs. Stalls have covers and most regulars come out anyway.

The High Street car parks fill by 9am. On Tuesdays the town runs a dedicated market car park at the Showground on the A429, with a free shuttle bus to the centre. If you are staying with us, the cottage has its own parking and you can walk straight onto the market.

Moreton-in-Marsh station is on the Cotswold Line, around 90 minutes direct from London Paddington. The station is a short walk from the High Street, so a day trip from London for the market is very doable. If you stay overnight, Mae Cottage is a short walk from the station too.
